Paula Rego
'Oratorio' 2009
Patina was contacted by the Foundling Museum in October 2009 to arrange the transportation and installation of a collaborative exhibition of artwork by Mat Collishaw, Tracy Emin and Paula Rego. Part of this project involved a complex installation of a major new work by Paula Rego called ‘Oratorio’ 2009, a mixed media triptych containing large framed works on paper and a number of mannequins installed within a wooden framework in the form of an altarpiece.
Prior to the installation we visited Paula Rego’s studio to meet the artist and her assistants and to view the new work in situ. This enabled us to see how it was constructed so that we could plan its installation at the Foundling Museum and make sure that there were no unforeseen problems. This also allowed us to complete the relevant risk and method statements. As part of this process we compiled an ‘installation file’ with detailed photographs to record how the work is installed.
The work was then dismantled, safely wrapped and reinstalled by Patina in the Marlborough Gallery in Old Bond Street. After this exhibition ended Patina’s detailed measurements were used to construct cases so that the work could be shipped to another exhibition in South America.
