Joshua Reynolds
'Macbeth and the Witches' 1789
In 2014 Joshua Reynolds’ ‘Macbeth and the Witches’ was removed from Petworth house for conservation and restoration. We were asked to deinstall the painting so that it could be rolled and removed to the conservation studio. This involved scaffolding towers to safely lower it to the ground. A black and white replica was then hung in its place during the six-month restoration process.
When the treatment was complete we reinstalled the painting in its original position in the Square Dining Room so that it could once more be enjoyed by visitors to Petworth House.
