Allen Jones RA
Lyndsey Morgan has worked with Allen Jones’s sculptures since 1998 when she completed a restoration of Tate’s edition of ‘Chair’ 1969 to restore damage caused by vandalism (1). Following this, she has worked closely with the artist in the restoration of a number of his other sculptures over the years including ‘Hatstand’ and ‘Table’ 1969 and ‘Secretary’ 1972. In a departure from her normal ‘day job’ as a conservator of sculpture this collaboration also resulted in her involvement as one of the fabricators for some of the artist’s more recent sculptures; painting faces for Jones’s editions including ‘Waiting on Table’ 2000, ‘Leather Figure’ 2001, ‘Light Green’ 2002, ‘Refrigerator’ 2002 and ‘Enchanteresse’ 2007 according to the artist’s wishes. This is in keeping with Jones’s ideas about avoiding the expressionist involvement of the artist’s hand in the process.
